Glorifying God as a family

Sorry that nothing has been posted lately.  It seems like our time of sickness is back.  I already wrote about Josiah, but I was sick these past couple days with a stomach bug and during that time Eva had (and still has) Josiah croupy cough.  I know a cough doesn’t seem that serious, but let me explain why this is a HUGE deal.  Eva throws up easily, very easily.  Feeding her with a spoon makes her gag (even if I only put half of the spoon in her mouth).  So, she coughs a lot right now and that cough makes her throw up.  You could be thinking “she throws up, kids do that.”  But when she is underweight as it is and while throwing up kids tend to loose weight… well, lets just say every KILOGRAM counts!  As an adult we count by the pound, with a kids like Eva we count by the kilogram.  Thankfully, I am better so it isn’t that bad to take care of the kids.  It actually reminds me of the first two weeks she came home.  She would throw up CONSTANTLY.  I spent all day feeding and cleaning her (and the carpet, blankets and towels), so this isn’t as bad.  I don’t think I could ever complain about my kids being sick.  The pyloric stenosis was… I would say traumatizing, but that doesn’t quite work.  It was hard and I would start to cry almost everyday she had that, but there was also the joy of having Eva home and just loving her by giving up so much time and effort for her that there was sweetness in it too.   But I don’t think a flu/stomach bug could ever trump pyloric stenosis!  As much as I learned from that I now NEVER want to do that again!  I’ll just be content with stomach bugs!

catching daddy’s eye May 26, 2009

The other day we all drove to a campground that was about an hour away that uncle Charlie, aunt Melissa and Anne were staying at.  On the way there Josiah was talking non-stop about the same thing OVER AND OVER.  All he wanted to do was show his aunt Brittany a snake.  So the first 30 minutes “B and snake!  B and snake!”  After a while Jim was starting to loose patience so he told Josiah “OK, daddy is done talking about this now.”  But Josiah is irishly stubborn!  Josiah said “daddy?”, but there was no response.  So he tried again, “daddy?”.  No response.   So, he tried a new tactic “Daddy?  Daddy?  Daddy?  Daddy?  Daddy?  Daddy?”   Still no response.  So, out of desperation he says “mommy?”  To which I respond “yes?”.  “I want daddy!”  “Umm, ok.”  Looking to Jim I said “Josiah wants to talk to you.”  Jim then turns around, hesitant, but hopeful for a new topic.  Jim asked “What to you want Josiah?”  Without skiping a beat Josiah answers “B and snake!”

one crazy week! May 25, 2009

I had my first trip to the ER this past week!  Mommy said “I was wondering when this day would come.”  She thought since I am so energetic and bold in my stunts she thought that I would go for a broken bone or stitches.  But that wasn’t what we went for.  I woke up about every 15 minutes Tuesday night/Wednesday morning.  I usually called for daddy, but at 3:00 AM I called for mommy.  She came and checked my temp, but we never found out what it was because when it hit 103.5 degrees she just shut it off and started gathering me up to take me to the ER.  What really decided it for her, besides my temperature, was when I curled my arms into my stomach and said “tummy oww, help mom.”  When I am sick, I just ignore it, so for me to ask for help was HUGE!!  The doctor said that in just a matter of hours I got a croupy cough, respiratory infection, fever and ear infection.  Mommy was shocked because I was fine Tuesday morning and was quiet in the evening, but she thought it was because I only took a fraction of my afternoon nap.  But I am doing better.  My fever is gone and ear infection is gone.  I still have a cough, but I (as usual) just ignore it.  Playing and reading is more important… to me at least!

Last night Jim went outside to so some yard work.  Josiah went outside to join him.  Jim watched Josiah walk to him with a little red wagon loaded with a baseball bat, Josiah’s glove, Jim’s glove, a tennis ball and Josiah’s sun glasses.  I wished I would have taken a picture!
