Glorifying God as a family

34 weeks! September 30, 2008

Filed under: Eva Grace — jimbaxa @ 7:42 am

Eva now weighs about 4 3/4 pounds and is almost 18 inches long. Her fat layers — which will help regulate her body temperature once she’s born — are filling her out, making her rounder. Her skin is also smoother than ever. Her central nervous system is maturing and her lungs are continuing to mature as well. If we have been nervous about preterm labor there is great news now, babies that are born between 34 and 37 weeks who have no other health problems generally do fine. They may need a short stay in the neonatal nursery and may have a few short-term health issues, but in the long run, they usually do as well as full-term babies!

“two!” September 30, 2008

Last night our family was watching Baby “Eistein” (Einstein)  and counting along with it.  It was a counting video.  When the movie came to the part where they talk about 3, Josiah yelled “dwo!”  Jim and I both said “no, three.” Josiah replied with a ‘concerned correction’ for his parents “dwo.”  Then the video said “Three”, and Josiah, with a little irritation, told the video “DWO!”

blue September 28, 2008

Josiah was coloring a picture with a black crayon at the table and Jim asked him what he was drawing.  Josiah answered “Blue.”  Jim looked at the picture and started to say “no, that isn’t blue, that is black.”  But I interrupted him and said “No, that is Blue.”  Jim looked at me with the look of pure confusion!  I got up from the table and started digging through Josiah toys.  Jim watched patiently and then laughed hard as I pulled out Josiah’s little brown monkey and said “Meet Blue!”

One Giant Step September 26, 2008

Last night we spent some time playing outside and Josiah was shooting hoops (yes, he can make baskets by himself!).  Well, all of a sudden he stops and looks and me, pats his diaper and says “potty.”  I was trying to get him to hurry, but he was moving at his normal pace, maybe slower, to the bathroom.  I am so thankful our bathroom is right next to the garage door when you walk in!  He started going in the diaper but finished on the toilet!  Why am I excited about that?  Well, he stopped playing with a ball to go potty!  BIG STEP!

sorry for the delay September 26, 2008

Sorry I haven’t posted anything recently.  We are adjusting to Jim being home and getting everything back in order.  Josiah is enjoying having his daddy back home and loving having his “partner in crime” back!  Like last night those boys were wispering  “secrets” to each other at Target.  Jim needed shoes so we went to the store and also Target had some cameras on clearance and I thought this would be a good way to see what we could get and just get a feel for what is out there.  Well, my two “villians” surprised me and bought the camera that I liked!  They asked which one I liked best and I told them and then Jim said “Get it.”  I did a double take.  I was expecting to wait another week or so, but he seemed to like what we saw and was excited that the card that was in my phone could be put in the camera so we didn’t need to buy a memory card as well!  And I liked the video feature and the fact that it is smaller.  Plus, who could argue getting a camera for 66% of it’s usual price!?

Sadly, I forgot to format the memory card and lost some pictures that I took last night of Josiah and Jim, but at least it is working now!

He’s back! September 24, 2008

Filed under: Jim — jimbaxa @ 8:13 am

Jim came home yesterday!  YAY!!  He was grinning ear to ear when he saw me and I have a hard time between laughing and crying.  Josiah didn’t have a hard time… he just smiled and squealed!  Jim got home a little after 2 and had a blast showing up the items he bought.  Sadly, our camera is gone so we couldn’t look at pictures!  It was in our checked bagged.  I think it was stolen, but Jim wants me to contact the airlines and see what they will do about it.  Why do I think it was stolen?  Because everything, batteries, cases.. etc. was in there except the actual camera.  I think it is gone for good and I think I should ask for the money it will cost to replace it.  I remember how much we spent of that thing.  We bought Oct. of 05 and it was $119.99 plus the memory card was $19.99.  Hey, it was our first big purchase as newlyweds!  Yes, I remember those silly things!  But those photos were priceless!  Jim had 400+ on there.  I am just so thankful that I downloaded all the family pictures on there before he left.  He shared stories about eating breakfast with the monkeys and seeing a lion eat a zebra (ah, the minds of men!).  He was shocked at how much Josiah is talking away and just grown up in the 3 weeks.  I think he was a little sad he missed so much.  Like Josiah said Eva for the first time while he was gone!  But he is glad to be back.  Oh, and in case you are curious, yes he does want to go back next year.  He misses it there already and tells me how much I would love Malawi (I think he is hinting at something)!  He says I would love the food because it is like Indian food except not as spicy.

SIDE NOTE:  As you could probably figure out, the 32 weeks belly will be even more delayed!  Sorry!

update from Jim September 23, 2008

Jim did call!  I was on the phone with Mary, my favorite mother-in-law, when he called.  I felt sorry for her because I screamed when I saw that he was beeping in.  Sorry Mary!

Anyway, he made it fine to Chicago and is on his way to Omaha.  He did get his luggage… on the last day of the trip.  But he did get it!  He seemed very excited to be almost home and is anxiously waiting for this last flight to be over.  He said he had a lot of people from the team ask him to come visit them in CA.  Maybe in a few months when I am not huge and Jim and I are not fed up with airplanes… maybe.  He said that Josiah and I would have loved the Safari and he thought maybe we could go sometime down the road.  He did enjoy a book Josiah and I made for him.  Since it was in his luggage he didn’t get to see it until the last day.  But he still enjoyed it.  It was a photo album with pictures of our family and some pictures that Josiah drew for daddy.  It also had a letter from me in there as well.  That is really all he was able to get out.  I had a lot of things to tell him and ask him.   He should be home in a couple of hours so I better get moving and get this house clean so I can help him with putting away the stuff in his suitcase and helping him with the load of mail he has to go through.  Also, I need to get his special dinner going.  I am making him ribs and also surprising him with Peanut Butter Pie and sparkling grape juice… I made that the first time he came over and we joke that that is what made me get him… after all, a way to a man’s heart is through his stomach.
