Glorifying God as a family

Busy Saturday August 31, 2008

Well, Josiah had one busy Saturday.  This past Saturday was our last before Jim leaves, so we decided to spend the whole day doing family stuff.  First we all packed a lunch and gear and left the house at 9:30 and was at Mahoney State Park before 10:20!  Josiah rode a pony!  He managed about 30 seconds, but he did love it.  He was asking for more once we got in the car to go to the next area, but we had to explain that he had one try because we were not going to pay another $5 for 30 seconds!  He was content in this, so next he and daddy climbed the 70 foot observation tower.  Mommy stayed on the ground because the tower was swaying in the wind and she is already off balance as it was.  Next we tried to go find the river that Josiah saw from the tower, but we couldn’t get to it due to trees and brush, but we could see it.  Next we headed to a playground that was there and Josiah played for a while.  Then we had lunch and headed for the pool.  Josiah was beyond excited to go swimming!  They had a wave pool, which he loved and declared that uncle Tommy was to come and play in this pool with him.  They also had a kiddie pool with a playground actually in the pool.  Jim enjoyed the slide and the diving board!

Then at 2:00 we decided to head home so Josiah could take his nap.  That boy slept for 3 hours!!  Then we went out to dinner at one of Jim’s favorite italian places and then headed to the mall to get stuff for his Malawi trip and let Josiah play on the padded, indoor playground that they have.  Then we headed home for Josiah to go to bed.  But then I realized we needed eggs so I ran to Walmart and bought some, but also our prints that I ordered for my scrapbooking projects were in, so I got those too!  Then we all cuddled on the couch and read books until Josiah’s bed time.  He was TiReD!  Then Jim and I had root beer floats and then crashed after a long, eventful, and physically exhausting day!  People always say the kids will sleep well, but the secret is the parents sleep even better!  :)

Click here for photos of our beautiful niece, or cousin, Anne. Josiah loves looking at her pictures!  He calls her “Aaa”!  He just needs to get that ‘N’ sound in there!  We are hoping to get to meet her at New Years!  We will see!

Telling it like it is August 29, 2008

Last night Josiah and I spent a good 15-20 minutes just “talking” to each other.  During the course of our conversation we talked about what to do today.  Josiah said he wanted “bobo” (that would be uncle Caleb).  I explained how that isn’t possible today, to this Josiah started choking up and asking for Caleb with a sad look.  Wanting to act fast, and I don’t remember who asked, but either Jim or I asked Josiah if mommy was fun too.  To this the answer was “no!”  I will admit it did hurt a little, but I know compare a really pregnant woman, who moves slowly, to a energetic 10 year old and the answer is obvious.  But this morning was fun.  We cuddled on the couch and read books!

Yesterday we drove grandma to the airport to go see uncle Charlie, aunt Melissa and Anne.  Grandpa, uncle Nate and Caleb dropped off grandma at our place which made Josiah very happy to see so many people and they were at his house!  Sadly, we spent most of the time talking about not taking away toys and the importance of sharing!  Josiah did not like sharing with his uncles, which was a bit surprising considering he was doing much better in that area.  After a few lectures he decided to skip the toys and he excitedly had the whole gang follow him so he could show them Eva’s room.  He loves showing people the “baby room” and then showing the his “big boy room!”

Today starts the countdown of our last week with Jim before he goes to Malawi!  He leaves next Friday after work!  Time has been going so fast!  It is hard to think that it is almost September already!  In roughly 2 months we will have Eva’s birth, Josiah’s 2nd birthday, Josiah and mommy’s trip to WI and Jim’s Malawi trip.  And that is just the big stuff!!!!   Anyway, we are excited that Jim gets to serve in Malawi and that he gets to declare God’s truth to those in Africa!

Calling grandma August 27, 2008

The other night Jim put Josiah to bed and Josiah was crying differently.  He was crying about something.  Jim tried to figure it out, but after a while came down stairs and sent me up to translate.  After “talking” with Josiah I figured out that he wanted to call his grandma.  Why he wanted to and made a big deal about it, I am not sure.  So I told Jim the interpretation and Jim and I went upstairs and sat on Josiah’s bed and we called grandma.  Grandma was as suprised, if not more than we were!  Josiah told her some stuff and then he was ready to go to bed.

Her crib!  The white blanket has little pink flowers on it.

The rocking chair that has been used in two generations with Eva’s blanket from Grandma!

Her craddle.  Josiah keeps the lamb in there!

29 weeks! August 26, 2008

Eva now weighs about 2 1/2 pounds and is a tad over 15 inches long from head to heel. Her muscles and lungs are continuing to mature, and her head is growing bigger to make room for her developing brain. To meet her increasing nutritional demands, we’ll need plenty of protein, vitamins C, folic acid, and iron. And because her bones are soaking up lots of calcium, I need to be sure to drink my milk (or find another good source of calcium, such as cheese, yogurt, or enriched orange juice). This trimester, about 250 milligrams of calcium are deposited in Eva’s hardening skeleton each day.

potty training victory… soon! August 25, 2008

Josiah went on a recession in potty training.  So, out of desperation, I came up with an idea.  Josiah is allowed to watch a segment of his beloved Tarzan if he goes potty.  How well is it working?  He is thrilled to go potty, even if he is only trying!  I admitted to Jim that I thought my idea was the dumbest idea and that it wouldn’t work, he admitted that he thought so to, but much to our surprise it has worked very well and he is waking up dry and going potty very regularly!  He still is not potty trained, but I would suspect it won’t be too long now.  :)
