Glorifying God as a family

Josiah’s first purchase! July 31, 2008

Filed under: Josiah David — jimbaxa @ 9:05 am

Last night we dropped off some items at our church garage sale and last night Josiah made his first purchase!  You may recall my talking about him finding a quarter on the ground.  Well, he still had it an we were at the church and he found a kiddy baseball glove.  In his mind it was just like daddy’s except not as big and heavy.  He wanted it really bad, but it did not have a tag on it.  So we asked Karen, who was in charge of pricing, how much they wanted for it.  She said $.25!  Josiah then bought his first item and I thought “How appropriate!  His first purchase was in relation to a ball!”  When we got home he wanted to play “catch” with daddy, but it was already bedtime.  Poor baby!  But it does give him something to look forward to!

Stalling July 30, 2008

Josiah is becomming excellent in the area of stalling for bedtime.  Last night he showed them off!  First he wanted a drink, then we told him to say good night to momma he laid down in my arms and started cuddleing, then we he got upstairs and in bed he asked for more water!  All this took about 20 minutes!  I thought afterwards of how he isn’t stupid.  He knows what he wants and his sinful heart will help him manipulate until he gets it… if he can.  We held our ground and he went to bed, much to his dismay, but it amazed me how he could figure those “talents” out for getting out of bed before he is even 2!

Last Day July 29, 2008

Today is Jim’s last day at his current job.  He is subbing for a fellow PT for a month, then he will be in Africa, then he starts working at two new buildings!  Those would be over an hour drive for him, but he will most likely have a company car, so that will help with the financial change and also we would, if he likes the new place, sell his car.  That way we won’t have to pay for car insurrance for both cars.  Hopefully Jim will enjoy his last day!

My mom was gracious enough to let me insert my camera flash card into her computer and email the 24 week picture to myself.  Thanks mom!  Picture is on Eva’s page!

25 weeks July 28, 2008

Head to heels, Eva now measures about 13 1/2 inches. Her weight — a pound and a half — isn’t much more than an average rutabaga, but she’s beginning to exchange her long, lean look for some baby fat. As she does, her wrinkled skin will begin to smooth out and she’ll start to look more and more like a newborn. She’s also growing more hair — and if we could see it, we would now be able to discern its color and texture.

Um, I will be slightly delayed in the 24 week belly shot.  I have the picture, but the cord for my camera is missing.  Sorry!

penny pincher July 27, 2008

The other day we were on a family walk and Jim made one of his jokes.  (those who know him well know that his jokes make you laugh out of awkward silence due to not really funny jokes)  I did not laugh, but Josiah busted a gut!  Jim pointed out how Josiah laughed like he should and how I need to learn from our son.  Jim then whispered loudly to Josiah “I’ll pay you later.”  Josiah then excitedly and loudly replied “YEAH!”

We were walking to the car on Saturday when Josiah found a quater on the ground.  He picked it up and put it in his pocket.  Tomorrow he and I are going to the bank so he can put his quarter in his savings account.  He is too cute!

hide and seek July 24, 2008

Tonight we played hide and go seek as a family.  Josiah and I would go “hide” and Jim would “find” us.  Josiah’s first choice for a hiding place was his bed.  We sat on his bed and put a blanket on our heads!  Mommy then would yell ready and Daddy would call out “ready or not, here I come!”.  Josiah would then laugh and giggle as Jim walked through his room and “looked for us”.  Josiah 2nd place to hide was under the table, then we hid in the bathtub, then we hid on mommy and daddy’s bed, then we hid in the closet!  Towards the end Josiah was the one yelling “red” (ready)!  I think we have a new game to play every night!

Outlawing the Bible July 24, 2008

Colorado just passed a law that, in Liberty Counsel’s opinion, could
ban the distribution of the Bible in that state.

The Law — SB 200 — bans the distribution of any written
material that discriminates based on “sexual orientation.”
According to the law, that includes…

…any communication, paper, poster, folder, manuscript,
book, pamphlet, writing, print, letter, notice, or
advertisement of any kind, nature, or description which is
intended or calculated to discriminate or actually
discriminates…”

Liberty Counsel’s legal team has concluded that this statute
effectively means a judge in Colorado has the power to ban
the distribution of the Bible in that state!

+ + Petition to protect your rights
What’s happening in Colorado is very much a
threat to the rights of people of faith in every state.

That’s why Liberty Counsel is launching a new petition to fight
against these radical anti-faith laws nationwide.

“goodbye, my friend” July 24, 2008

Filed under: Josiah David — jimbaxa @ 7:33 am

We are weaning Josiah off his pacifier.  He has only been allowed to have to go to sleep and occasionally for Bible study.  We started last week and it is almost safe to say he is weaned.  He misses his “friend” dearly, but he doesn’t ask or cry for it!  He did a great job with letting go!  The first night he only was upset 5 minutes or so!  Now he is only upset about 30 seconds!  (upset doesn’t mean screaming the whole time, usually it was a quiet whimper)  But some of the attitude is probably sad since he isn’t playing outside and has to go inside and sleep.  We hid the pacifiers out of sight, so we are hoping that he will forget them.  Trying that old saying “out of sight, out of mind”, but who knows he might make true the other saying “absence makes the heart grow founder”.  If that is the case them we need to figure out what to do in relation to Eva probably having one and most likely Josiah wanted it.  :)
