Glorifying God as a family

21 weeks, less than half to go! June 30, 2008

Filed under: Eva Grace — jimbaxa @ 3:22 pm

Eva now weighs about three-quarters of a pound and is approximately 10 1/2 inches long — the legnth of a carrot.  It feels like she’s practicing martial arts as her initial fluttering movements turn into full-fledged kicks and nudges.  We also noticed a pattern to her activity as we get to know her better. Another development is that Eva’s eyebrows and lids are present now.

Josiah has a puzzle that has all the letters of the alphabet as the puzzle pieces and he loves looking and the picture that the puzzle designers put with the letter.  For example, insect is for I, and since Josiah loves bugs this is an big interest to him.  The other day I was making dinner and I was making rice’a'roni as a side dish and Josiah wanted the box.  I couldn’t see any objections since it was empty and hadn’t made it’s way to the trash yet, so I let him hold it for a few minutes.  Jim took him to the potty chair and Josiah was showing Jim his box (I guessed it was a big deal to him!) and then pointed to one of the “I”s in the title and said “I”!!!!  At least we know that he does listen to us!

eva update June 29, 2008

Filed under: Eva Grace — jimbaxa @ 5:10 pm

Eva is getting more and more active everyday.  She reminds me so much of her big brother it is crazy!  I am becoming more aware of when she wakes up and she seems to be awake around the same time every day.  We found a couple shirts for her to wear next summer on clearance!  That was exciting!  We are waiting until August time to start buying her stuff.  A lot of stores are selling summer clothes right now and we need winter.

Eva’s page has been updated.  As promised a 20 week belly shot!  (for those who aren’t aware, I have promised to put a picture of a belly shot up every 4 weeks.)  Next one will be at 24 weeks!

bed time? June 28, 2008

Filed under: Jim, Josiah David, Traci — jimbaxa @ 6:50 am

Jim and I have talked about letting Josiah stay up a little later now that the sun sets later.  Last night I couldn’t remember if we decided to change it so I looked at Jim and asked “did we decide to go ahead and make Josiah’s bedtime later?”.  Josiah immediately yelled “yeah!”.

where’s Eva June 27, 2008

Yesterday Josiah and I met up with my mom, dad and two youngest siblings for lunch.  We were going around the table asking Josiah who was who.  We would say “Where’s Caleb?” and he would point to Caleb.  Well, we finished going around the table and I wanted to asked Josiah about his sister since I have been working at getting him to say her name.  Well, I said “Where is Josiah’s baby sister, Eva?”.  Josiah then pointed to his own belly and said “be’y”  (pronounced without Ls).  I then went on to ask “Who’s belly?”.  Josiah thought for about 5 seconds and pointed past me to the person who just walked in.  It was, pardon this phrase, an overweight middle aged man!  He just had a belly that to a 1 year old looked like a pregnancy belly.

baby or big boy June 26, 2008

Filed under: Josiah David — jimbaxa @ 6:11 am

Yesterday Josiah had a hard time as I starting putting the boy stuff away and brought of the girl blankets that grandma E had given us before he was born.  He had a hard time as I started putting the girly stuffed animals around the room and taking out the things that he thought belonged in that room.  He wanted to actually get in the crib!  That is a big deal because he would rather… not see his friends than not sleep in a big boy bed!  I kept on having to show him what was going on in his room.  Jim and I were both doing work in each kiddo’s room.  I was setting up what I could in Eva’s and Jim was putting a ceiling fan in Josiah’s room.  We realized that Josiah is going to have a harder time than we thought, but with the baby stuff slowly coming out he does get a chance to get use to this “big brother” thing.

answer that question June 25, 2008

Filed under: Eva Grace — jimbaxa @ 11:58 am

OK, a couple people have asked this question and for the record this is for those who have asked or were going to ask.  Jim and I are not asking for gifts in anyway, but this is informational purposes only to those who have expressed desire to get something for Eva.  Please do not feel obligated in any way to buy ANYTHING!  To our dear Christian friends just pray for her salvation, that is our deepest desire for her.  Just love her.  That is a gift to have a true love for someone where you don’t lie even if it hurts them is gift you can give her that we will cherish.  So, here is the answer to the question that has been asked:

What will Eva need as far as material things?  updated 6/30 a few items have been met from gender neutral clothes that I found in the back of our storage!  Yay!

Well, to be quite honest, not too much.  For the first… 5-6 months she will need pants (without the flowers or words on the tush, I really don’t like that look of drawing attention to that area) 0-3 & 3-6 mo and capris (3-6 mo), long sleeved shirts and shirts for spring (short sleeved, but not sleeveless), a couple pjs, maybe girly socks since white one are plenty from Josiah, maybe a couple girly onsies, gloves and a sweater for wearing inside … that may be it.  A lot of Josiah’s onsies where white, so those are neutral.  We have a enough pink blankets and all the furniture items.  I am sure that she will get some cute winter dresses since that is what girls tend to get, but these again are not necessary since we wear nice jeans and shirts to church and the only time we really dress up is for a wedding.  We will not be piercing her ears for several reasons, so she will not need those… just jewelry in general since those are a choking hazard to her and Josiah (yes, he still puts things in his mouth!  UGH!).  Headbands and bows would be fun, but not necessary.  I hope this answers the question to those who asked.  She really doesn’t need much.  When my parents were doing Foster Care the social worker said a child only really NEEDS 10 mix and match clothing items.  Yes, I am the same way with Josiah.  I really like mix and match items like khakis and jeans and shirts.  We are a very casual family and I like having mix and match that way if Josiah or Eva get their pants dirty I only have to change their pants and not the whole outfit.  I am a 2 piece outfit person to save laundry.  :)

josiah’s reaction to a sister June 25, 2008

Josiah really didn’t know what to think when we saw the ultrasound.  We pointed and showed him the baby, but he looked like he was just looking at a gray screen.  But towards the end after we told him it was a baby girl he then puckered to kiss the monitor screen.
