Today we noticed a baby bump! It will be a little longer until others can notice, but we can start to see it coming!

sleeping in a bed and a few other stories March 29, 2008
Josiah slept in his big boy bed! He did very well! He was very happy to be able to get out of bed and walk around his room instead of waiting for mommy to run upstairs. He waited patiently at the gate to come out of his room.
As you know, from previous posts, that Josiah is learning the baby is in mommy’s tummy. Yesterday I asked him again in front of Jim to show him how Josiah is getting it. Josiah patted my belly and Jim cheered! Then Josiah ran to daddy and patted daddy’s belly too. Apparently we are having two babies.
Morning sickness is pretty bad today. I was sweeping up Josiah crumbs from his blueberry muffin for breakfast when I needed to ‘empty my stomach.’ I ran to go do that and when I came back Josiah was ’sweeping’ up the rest of the mess. (he made a more spread out pile) I then told the story to Jim, who missed this whole scene, and Jim smiled and said “that’s so sweet.” Josiah then puts his forehead by Jim’s mouth as if to say “kiss, I need my reward!”
what baby? March 28, 2008
Jim and I have been teaching Josiah there is a baby in mommy’s tummy. This morning I asked him where the baby was and he pointed to my stomach. Then he lifted up my shirt and started searching intently at my stomach and belly button. I said “That’s where the baby is growing” he looked at me and gave me a look of “no mommy, I just checked. I didn’t see a baby”.
‘mmm, ‘mmm good March 28, 2008
Jim and I try to get conversation going with Josiah during dinner. This is as far as we get.
m or d: Is your food good?
j: ‘mmm
j: continues eating the food in silence, but with a smile.
7 weeks March 25, 2008
Hands and feet are emerging from developing arms and legs — although they look more like paddles at this point than the tiny, pudgy extremities you’re thinking about holding and tickling. Technically, the baby is still considered an embryo and has something of a small tail, which is an extension of it’s tailbone. The tail will disappear within a few weeks, but that’s the only thing getting smaller. The baby has doubled in size since last week and now measures half an inch long, about the size of a blueberry.

If you could see the baby now, you’d spot eyelid folds partially covering it’s peepers, which already have some color, as well as the tip of nose and tiny veins beneath parchment-thin skin. Both hemispheres of the baby’s brain are growing, and it’s liver is churning out red blood cells until the bone marrow forms and takes over this role. Baby also has an appendix and a pancreas, which will eventually produce the hormone insulin to aid in digestion. A loop in the baby’s growing intestines is bulging into the umbilical cord, which now has distinct blood vessels to carry oxygen and nutrients to and from it’s tiny body.
baby names March 24, 2008
Well, we are sharing the baby names we have picked out!
If it is a girl we are sticking with Evangeline Grace, pronounced e-van-ge-line (not lean, but line), or you could just say Eva. The reason we picked this name is because of the meaning, it means bringer of the gospel of grace.
If it is a boy we picked out Calvin Edwards. Yes, Edward with a S. The reason we picked this name is not because of meaning, but because of two great men of faith. Both men were named John/Jon and since we cannot do that name we went with their last names. John Calvin was a great reformer in the time of Luther. Calvin believed in the doctrines of grace where everyone else was teaching good works got people into heaven, which declared that God would compromise His justice. Jonathan Edwards was a theologian in the 17 hundreds. He preached the true gospel amidst opposition and served as a missionary. He was also a president of Princeton Seminary when it was a seminary that studied scripture, not man’s philosophies.
another cute story March 24, 2008
After Jim came home from work we started talking about baby with Josiah. We started saying how he is a big brother and asked him where “Josiah’s baby” is. He pointed to me and daddy brought him over and pointed to my belly (I am not showing yet though) and said “baby is in there.” Josiah then asked me for a kiss and I gave him one. Then Jim asked him if the baby gets a kiss and Josiah kissed my stomach! It was so cute!
bampa, mam-ma, dah, and tah March 24, 2008
Josiah had a blast this past weekend with his grandpa, grandma, uncle Danny and uncle Tommy! There were SO MANY cute stories it is hard to remember them all.
1. Within hours of showing up at the house, grandpa had this kid sitting and reading on his lap. He it was priceless.
2. The whole family came to Josiah’s OBC (Josiah thinks the church is his playground) and we were singing worship songs and Josiah decided he did not want mommy anymore. So he reaches for daddy, but then, to our surprise, immediately reaches for grandpa. Then immediately reaches for uncle Danny. Then is pleased to stop at his uncle Tommy and just rest in his arms.
3. Josiah called for grandma! He pointed at her and said “mam-ma,” sadly grandma didn’t hear and only knew because people pointed it out, but it was still PRECIOUS!
4. Even though uncle Danny was sick the whole weekend, he still played with Josiah. Josiah loved playing outside with uncle Danny!
Josiah was very sad to see them go, but he made sure to give them all a kiss goodbye until we see them again in May.
he loves shoes March 21, 2008
Josiah is enjoying having time with his grandparents and two of his uncles! He already knows who is wrapped around his pinkie! He is definitely having fun with it!
As I am writing this Josiah runs over to uncle Danny’s shoes and is running off with them! He has this look on his face that a kid gets when they say “uh o”, like he knows he shouldn’t be stealing them! Yet he still puts his little feet in those big shoes!
